2008 BIBI GRAETZ CASAMATTA BIANCO TUSCANY OUR PRICE $12.99
90% Vermentino, 10% Moscato
Bibi Graetz is one of Tuscany’s great emerging producers. His Testamatta Estate is located just above Florence, near Fiesole in the hamlet of Vincigliata where he resides in the Castello di Vincigliata. His wines are an authentic expression of Tuscany, since he refuses to grow international varietals and focuses exclusively on the indigenous varieties of Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Colorino, Ansonica, and Vermentino. The charismatic Bibi is also a gifted artist and is part of a family of artists and sculptors. His wine labels are all masterpieces that he himself has painted. This Tuscan wine has very perfumed and floral notes on the nose with aromatic fruit components. The palate is full and balanced with a long pleasant finish. No oak!
2007 MALVIRA FAVORITA LANGHE PIEMONTE OUR PRICE $18.99
100% Favorita
Malvira’ is located in Piemonte’s Roero district just North of Alba and across the Tanaro river from the Langhe. The name Malvira’ is related to the former location of the old winery and its courtyard, which faced North instead of South, ignoring all winemaking traditions. Therefore, “mal” stands for wrong and “vira” for situated. In 1989, the winery moved from the historic center of Canale to the small village of Canova at the foot of the Trinita' vineyard which is adjacent to the family restaurant and hotel Villa Tiboldi. After beginning production in the 50’s under the guidance of Giuseppe Damonte, today the estate is run by Roberto and Massimo, Giuseppe’s sons, who inherited their father’s passion for winemaking. The two brothers work closely together with Roberto managing the cellar and US sales and Massimo managing the vineyards. A straw yellow color with an intense and persistent fruit and floral bouquet with a hint of white peach and acacia. The taste is fresh, with great acid structure, and a long finish.
2007 SCARBOLO FRIULANO BIANCO FRIULI OUR PRICE $14.99
100% Tocai Friulano
Azienda Agricola Scarbolo is a family-run, small-production winery headed by Valter Scarbolo. The Scarbolo family has 25 hectares of vineyards located in the Friuli region on the right bank of the Torre river and five kilometers south of the Colli Orientali growing region. The soil is composed of clay and gravel with alpine mountain air currents and Adriatic sea breezes. The grapes grown on the Estate are Pinot Grigio, Merlot, Sauvignon, Tocai, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Refosco. Valter Scarbolo is also an accomplished restaurateur owning La Frasca Restaurant in Pavia di Udine. In Friuli the Tocai Friulano is the most typical white grape. Of all regions in Italy, Tocai Friulano fully expresses its maximum potential. The varietal especially likes warm but well ventilated climate conditions. It exhibits aromas of wild flowers, almonds and in warmer growing seasons some tropical aromas. On the palate it is medium to full bodied and elegant with good acidity and subtle flavors of almonds.
