FEATURED WINES
PORTUGAL
2008 RAMOS LOIOS VINHO BLANCO OUR PRICE $9.99
50% Rabo de Ovelha and 50% Roupeiro
Loios is a wine produced in the Alentejo region, located in the south of Portugal. Its name originates from the title given in the 15th century to the members of the ancient Priest Congregation of St. John Evangelist, known simply as Loios. Pale yellow in color, lime and mineral aromas show through on the nose. The palate demonstrates great acidity with notes of apples and other citrus fruits. A perfect aperitif wine, easily pairing with all dishes, especially antipasti and other lighter fare.
2008 RAMOS LOIOS VINHO TINTO OUR PRICE $9.99
35% Aragones, 35% Trincadeira and 30% Castelão
This easy drinking red shows an intensely fruity aroma, jammy and meaty all at the same time. Soft and easy going, it is nevertheless able to complement all cuisines. Perfect with barbecue, tomato based pasta dishes, or even a pizza.
SPAIN
2004 JUVE Y CAMPS RESERVA DE LA FAMILIA BRUT NATURE CAVA SPARKLING WINE OUR PRICE $16.99
33% Macabeo, 33% Xarel.lo and 34% Parellada
This cava is produced from the free run juice of Macabeo, Xarel.lo and Parellada grapes harvested on the estate's properties at Espiells, Can Massana and La Cuscona. It is the best known of Juve's cavas and still their only Brut Nature. Pale gold in color, this cava has aromas of mature white fruits, and toasted bread with hints of citrus in the background. Both the aromas and flavor of this wine are long and satisfying. The Reserva de la Familia, with its freshness and ripeness, suits the palate perfectly. Pair with paté, seafood, rice, and all kinds of fish, white meat and smoked food.

Spain: Great Vintages, Great Values
"The Reserva de la Familia, a light straw-colored sparkling wine, offers yeasty, wheat-thin aromas and flavors, a persistent stream of small bubbles, and good concentration."
2007 CASTILLO DE ALAMANSA GARNACHA TINTOREA OUR PRICE $8.99
100% Garnacha Tintorera
Al Mansa means "the fortress". The Piqueras family has owned vineyards for almost 100 years at a 2,500 foot elevation outside the stunning, hilltop fortress town of Almansa, just north of Jumilla. The vinifera variety of Garnacha Tintorera is a unique grape in which the pulp, as well as its skin, is red in color. It has been planted in France and was even brought to California, but its best home has always been southeastern Spain. This wine is 100% Garnacha Tintorera, produced totally in stainless steel. This wine displays in intense cherry-red color, with ruby highlights. It offers mouth-watering aromas of red fruits, with an elegant spicy note. Lively on the palate with a smooth texture, it has nicely balanced acidity and well-integrated tannins. Chunky, deep and full, this wine is at once forward and well-structured.

Spain: Great Vintages, Great Values
"Garnacha Tintorera is better known in the USA as Alicante Bouchet. At Castillo de Almansa the vines are planted without trellises and give tiny yields of 1.2 tons per acre. The 2005 Garnacha Tintorera, raised in stainless steel, is purple-colored with ripe black fruit aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied, supple on the palate, and tasty, this excellent value can be enjoyed over the next two years."
2005 CASTILLO LABASTIDA CRIANZA OUR PRICE $15.99
100% Tempranillo
Labastida is a beautiful old village in the foothills of the Sierra Cantabria, in the Alavesa district of Rioja, northwest of the city of Haro. Made from 100% Tempranillo grapes harvested manually in October. The wine undergoes fermentation in stainless steel tanks for 9 days and is then aged in American oak barriques for one year. After barrel aging, the wine is further aged for a minimum of six months in bottles. Vibrant and intense cherry red in color, with scents of red fruits, cocoa and licorice. The fruity aromas are more obvious over the more subtle fragrances of the oak. On the palate, the wine tastes of sweetened red fruit and marinated cherries with a somewhat lactic finish. Full and tasty, this wine pairs well with pasta with meat sauce, eggs, lightly cured cheeses and fowl.
SHERRY
EMILIO HIDALGO FINO SHERRY OUR PRICE $20.99
100% Palomino
The pale, clean color of this wine belies its beauty and complexity. Made from 100% Palomino, the wine is elegant and bone-dry on the palate, yet the finish lingers on. The finesse of this wine comes from the fact that Hidalgo uses finos from aged soleras, sometimes 6 and 7 years old, when many producers choose to bottle their finos at 2-3 years. This extra aging adds refinement on the palate. All Finos develop under the veil of flor and this is evident on the nose of this wine, showing its bready, yeasty character. Opening with typical notes of green olives, this refreshing fino gives way to delicate wildflowers on the nose. Pairs perfectly with classic tapas but can also last the whole meal through with seafood and even sushi. This wine is meant to be served very-well chilled and can be used an aperitif as well as the most refreshing accompaniment to many classic, simple seafood dishes.
EMILIO HIDALGO "MORENITA" CREAM SHERRY OUR PRICE $20.99
Blend of Palomino and Pedro Ximenez
Morenita-meaning the little brunette-refers to rich brown color of this sherry. The blend of Palomino and Pedro Ximénez lends to this wine, a rich brown color with dark golden highlights. Created by a close family-friend and local grower back in the 1970’s, to mimic the classic Jerezano tavern blend of mixing fino and pedro ximenez, Morenita is a delightful sherry. This is a delicate style cream with hints of caramel, dried fruits and mocha on the nose. Smooth and elegant with well-balanced sweetness, it still manages to be refreshing. Serve slightly chilled or on the rocks as an aperitif or enjoy with mildly rich meals. One drink begs another.
Wine Enthusiast - November 15, 2008 Best Buy
"Smooth and sweet, like a cream Sherry is supposed to be. On the nose, this one easily shifts from ripe apricot and peach fruit to nuts and saline. The palate starts with a blast of coffee and mocha, and then folds in brown sugar and spice. Sweet, long and generous, with accents of cinnamon, clove and milk chocolate." - 90 Points
