Halloween Wine Tasting Scary Wines

Posted on 10/30/2009

TRAVERSO'S WOULD LIKE TO WISH YOU A HAPPY HALLOWEEN!  INTRODUCING WINES SO GOOD THEY ARE SCARY!  TASTING THIS SATURDAY OCTOBER 31, IN-STORE NOON TO 3PM

We've assembled five new wines that we feel are so good (and inexpensive) that they are scary!  We will have these open for tasting this Saturday, October 31 in-store from noon to 3pm.  Importer William Craig will be on hand to explain and educate on each wine.  Come in and taste.  We think you'll be scared stiff and want to buy them all.  Costumes are welcome.

All featured wines will be 10% OFF this Saturday only.  Buy any four or more and receive 15% OFF!  Can ship or hold 707-542-2530 info@traversos.com

FEATURED WINES

2008 Domaine de Coussergues Chardonnay/Viognier $10.99
From Southern France...."My favorite is the medium-bodied, dry, fresh, lively 2008 Chardonnay/Viognier (a 50-50 blend). Exotic tropical fruit, honeysuckle, and floral undertones offer a lovely aromatic display. All four of these offerings are crisp, fresh, lively, aromatic whites that are best consumed over the next 6-12 months." - 90 Points, Wine Advocate

2008 Fuente Milano Rueda Verdejo/Viura $8.99
From Rueda region of Spain famous for the aromatic white wines made from Verdejo, a variety somewhat reminiscent of Sauvignon Blanc - sort of like Sancerre meets New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc..."Light, bright yellow. Aromas of grapefruit, green apple and lemon pith. Vibrant and pure, offering zesty citrus flavors and a suave undercurrent of succulent herbs. A note of anise adds complexity to the spicy, persistent finish. Reminds me of plenty of sauvignon blancs that sell for twice the price." - 88 Points, International Wine Cellar

2007 Ojos Calatayud Spain Garnacha $8.99
From the rugged mountainous region of Calatayud in Northern Spain - Spanish Garnacha (Grenache) is one of the world's best wine values today without a doubt - coming from truly old head pruned vines, the wines are full of ripe berry fruit and peppery spice - an easy transition for Zinfandel lovers, these are generous hedonistic wines that are often under $10 - get to know them - Tres Ojos (three eyes) is named after the three arches on the ancient Roman aquaduct that is in the middle of the Tres Ojos vineyards.

2007 Chateau Segries Lirac France $16.99
From France's Lirac - great appellation to get to know.  West of Chateauneuf du Pape this offering is a great wine to follow each year - very consistent and a juicy generous wine..."A brilliant wine, the 2007 Lirac Cuvee Reserve red requires another 6-12 months of bottle age. A combination of 50% Grenache, 30% Syrah, and the rest Cinsault, Mourvedre, and Carignan, it exhibits a dense ruby/purple hue as well as a big, bold aromatic display of fresh mushrooms, tree bark, blueberries, and black cherries. Deep, textured, full-bodied, powerful, and muscular with some tannin to shed, this offering should be forgotten for a year or so, and consumed over the following decade." - 90+ Points, Wine Advocate

2007 Parusso Langhe Italy Nebbiolo $22.99
From Italy's Piedmont region, Parusso very good modern styled producer - as in clean floral fruit - not so pinched and tarry..."Marco Parusso’s 2007 Langhe Nebbiolo is a beautiful, generous wine with sweet, floral red fruits that blossom on the palate in an elegant, graceful style. The open, generous quality of the vintage is on display, as the wine’s soft fruit and soft tannins convey an impression of elegance and accessibility, something Nebbiolo rarely offers at this stage in its evolution." - 89 Points, Wine Advocate
