Oliver Picault and his wife Nathalie left the pristine Loire Valley of France six years ago to work in the California wine industry. In March of 2007 they created Planet Wines where they import and sell wines from France as well as a few domestic labels. Over many of pulled corks, we've gained a great admiration for Oliver's selection of wines. His company's imports are as good as any in their category. They offer wonderful values and interesting dynamic flavors...as well as respecting the soil and vines to protect the Planet. We have selected four wines to pour this Saturday, including a new import from a French winemaker in New Zealand. Come in to taste, buy and meet Oliver.

100% Sauvignon Blanc
LOIRE VALLEY...Nose combines mostly fruity aromas of citrus and exotic fruits (pineapple, mango) and mineral aromas of flint. Clean and crisp attack, balanced with a good mellowness. Persistent, fine and elegant finish. Great with Frisée salad with goat cheese, Shellfish, Seafood, Smoked salmon, Sole meunière, Tartare of fish, or just by itself! This has become a solid offering at our store. You can't beat this wine for the price in Sancerre!
2007 DOMAINE AUCHERE SANCERRE ROUGE LOIRE VALLEY FRANCE OUR PRICE $20.99
Yes, a RED Sancerre! Made of 100% Pinot Noir grapes. Many of our customers found it odd that we'd offer a RED Sancerre. We really like this wine. At 12.5% alcohol, it is a great food-friendly alternative to New World fruit bombs. Nose of red and black cassis fruit. Good acidity and supple round tannins, refreshing light red fruit. Only 1000 cases produced. Nice pair with grilled pork and lamb chops.
2006 DOMAINE CHANTE CIGALE CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE RHONE VALLEY FRANCE OUR PRICE $34.99
Blend of 65% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre, 5% Cinsault. Results in a wine crimson with the purplished reflections. Nose of wood spices and black fruits with subtle cinnamon aromas. Long and round finish.....smooth! Pair with stews, red meats or cheese. Potential age range 10 to 15 years.
2008 BEL ECHO MARLBOURGH NEW ZEALAND SAUVIGNON BLANC OUR PRICE $15.99
Crafted by Clos Henri of France who has many years of experience with the Sauvignon Blanc grape.
The wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks to retain fruit elegance and flavor; it is then aged on fine lees for six months. Reveals expressive aromas of tropical fruits, a slight minerality, and to get a round mouthfeel, while keeping a natural weight on the palate obtained from the clay.
